Hearthstone: Gluth (Heroic)

Geek Generation here.

I thought Grobbulus was terrible, but Gluth is worse. Heroic Gluth’s hero power is now an advanced form of Equality that affects only your side of the board, all without costing any mana. Since the effect is so… thorough, and affects only one side of the board, there isn’t any playing around of the ability; Gluth is hardly affected by dumb AI when it comes to hero powers.

Gluth also begins the game with an Unstable Ghoul and a Zombie Chow. Unstable Ghoul is highly irritating when all your minions are only 1 health. Zombie Chow though, is a sight for sore eyes. When you manage to clear the entire board, Zombie Chow puts you back into the game.

But you can’t exactly clear the entire board at the beginning, even if you could, because very often, Gluth will have his weapon out on turn 1. And if the board was cleared while Gluth is showing you his teeth, the the game would be over very quickly. The way to begin the game is to mulligan all cards that are not Acidic Swamp Ooze. Getting that ooze is essential toward winning.

I’ve lost around 10 to 20 games to Gluth (too many to count). I started with Mage and after freezing stuff for a couple times, i realized that Water Elemental was a great inclusion. Unfortunately, Water Elementals can’t freeze Gluth permanently as Abomination and Unstable Ghoul would inevitably plop onto the board.

Then i switch to Priest, which was worse than Mage. I’m thinking i must have built it wrong or something. My version of Priest was utterly incapable of dealing damage and pretty ineffective when it comes to clearing the board. The Wild Pyromancer package is just a little underwhelming when it has only one health.

Then i switched to Paladin.

2 x Humility
2 x Noble Sacrifice
2 x Redemption
1 x Equality
2 x Holy Light
2 x Truesilver Champion
1 x Blessing of Kings
2 x Consecration
1 x Lay on Hands

2 x Acidic Swamp Ooze
1 x Bloodmage Thalnos
2 x Ironbeak Owl
2 x Knife Juggler
2 x Youthful Brewmaster
2 x Earthen Ring Farseer
1 x Mind Control Tech
1 x Hogger
2 x Guardian of Kings

I think i managed to get the win on the third try with Paladin. I’m not very sure how i won. I think the early part involved playing Humility on the big minions while summoning Silver Hand Recruits every turn until i hit 6 mana for Equality and Consecration. Gluth didn’t get Jaws for the early game and when he started drawing them, i had 2 Acidic Swamp Ooze for 3 of his Jaws.

The third Jaws came too late as Gluth’s juice started to peter out and it was my turn to beat down with every Abomination and Unstable Ghoul acting as a board clearing speed bump. I think i nearly used all the cards in the deck.

Although i don’t have Stormwind Champion in my deck, it deserves an honorable mention. I really should’ve include it in my deck. Stormwind Champion’s ability, i believe, works over the Equality effect. That extra health for your minions could help alot in negating Unstable Ghoul’s Deathrattle effect.

It’s a little late for me right now. I’ll continue with the last boss tomorrow. Geek Generation out.
