Hearthstone: Mage, A Secret Extension

Hello everybody, G33k Generation here.

I’ve been tinkering with my Mage. I wanted to play the new Mad Scientists cards, but i didn’t have any Kirin Tor Mages or Ethereal Arcanists. I felt that without these minions, i could not make a full Secret deck as Mage secrets costs 3 mana and mana is a luxury that Jaina does not have in those early turns. A turn 3 Mirror Entity can never compare to a turn 3 Kirin Tor Mage into Mirror Entity.

2 x Arcane Missiles
2 x Arcane Explosion
2 x Frostbolt
1 x Counterspell
1 x Duplicate
1 x Mirror Entity
2 x Fireball
1 x Polymorph
1 x Blizzard
1 x Flamestrike

2 x Mana Wyrm
1 x Acidic Swamp Ooze
1 x Bloodmage Thalnos
2 x Ironbeak Owl
2 x Mad Scientist
1 x Acolyte of Pain
1 x Earthen Ring Farseer
2 x Raging Worgen
2 x Defender of Argus
2 x Azure Drake

This is the deck list i’ve been playing with and it has me performing yoyo on ranks 15 and 14. The deck’s concept is to do as much damage as possible with whatever is on the board and fireball for the win. Seriously, i need Pyroblast >< The first thing to note that there are 2 Mad Scientists and only 3 secrets in the deck. What’s up with that?

The idea behind Mad Scientists are that they serve as extensions for the Secret cards. So instead of having only 3 chances to draw a Secret, you’ll have increased the chances to 5, via Mad Scientists, without having to include more secrets in the deck. And since there are only 3 secrets, you must make sure that Duplicate never triggers with only Mad Scientist in play.

Second thing to note before sending a Mad Scientist on a suicide mission is whether the opponent has the Coin card or not. It would be a dismal turn of events if Counterspell were to get the Coin.

Lastly, none of the Secrets are Vaporize or Ice Barrier. Because that would be just too easy for the opponent to figure out. Most opponents will assume that you’ll play the same secrets. Having all different secrets increases the chance that the opponent would make a mistake and play favorably for you.

As for the single copies of Acidic Swamp Ooze, Acolyte of Pain, Earthen Ring Farseer, it’s the result of wanting too many things in my deck. I wanted to destroy weapons, draw some cards, heal some health and a low mana cost beater. Unable to decide and commit, i went with playing 1 of each card.

Geek Generation out.
