Hearthstone: Priest Highlander

Hello everybody, Geek Generation here.

I’ve been fiddling with my Priest deck and it seems no matter what i do, i end up with a deck that’s more or less the same. The chief reason for this is that there’s always a set of cards that i try to include into the deck. Namely, the genesis of my Priest decks begins as follows:

2 x Circle of Healing
2 x Silence
2 x Holy Smite
2 x Power Word: Shield
2 x Shadow Word: Pain
2 x Shadow Word: Death
2 x Thoughtsteal
2 x Holy Nova
2 x Holy Fire

2 x Northshire Cleric
2 x Auchenai Soulpriest

That makes up a whole set of 22 cards. Adding in staples like Injured Blademaster, there really isn’t much space for deck customization. So either i had to give up fiddling with Priest deck, or i had to overhaul my whole concept of Priest decks and approach it from another angle.

Doing neither, i remembered that there was a format in Magic the Gathering called the Highlander format. In Highlander format, there can be only 1 copy of any card in the deck. The roots of the format lies in the show Highlander which had a catchphrase, “There can be only one.”.

I began build Priest Highlander by including 1 copy of every Priest card. I ended up with a 23 card starting point which was worse than i began with. The whole idea was to free up more slots for other cards and i ended with less slots. Apparently, i had to trim the Priest cards, excluding cards that i don’t like at all to begin with.

This is the decklist i end up with.

1 x Northshire Cleric
1 x Acidic Ooze
1 x Ironbeak Owl
1 x Blood Knight
1 x Dark Cultist
1 x Earthen Ring Farseer
1 x Injured Blademaster
1 x Mind Control Tech
1 x Auchenai Soulpriest
1 x Spellbreaker
1 x Azure Drake
1 x Sludge Belcher
1 x Stampeding Kodo
1 x Cabal Shadow Priest
1 x Temple Enforcer
1 x The Black Knight
1 x Circle of Healing
1 x Silence
1 x Holy Smite
1 x Inner Fire
1 x Power Word: Shield
1 x Divine Spirit
1 x Shadow Word: Pain
1 x Shadow Word: Death
1 x Shadowform
1 x Thoughtsteal
1 x Shadow Madness
1 x Holy Nova
1 x Holy Fire
1 x Mind Control

I managed to put in only 1 game against a Deathrattle Warrior. He didn’t get turn 1 Undertaker and somehow, my minions had more staying power than his. I managed to scrap a win when i played Mind Control on his Ysera followed by Divine Spirit, Inner Fire.

I have to go out soon, so i can’t play more with this new deck. I get the feeling that it’s not very strong; i have to put more games in when i come back. Geek Generation out.
